Chautauqua Health And Rehabilitation Nursing Home Abuse And Neglect Allegations – Cited With Multiple Violations

Two surveys in 2021 from the Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services revealed the depth and breadth of their violations in a 31-page report and a subsequent 140-page report. The violations are indicative of the true conditions within the facility as it was fined for not protecting residents from aggressive patients.

The Cabinet for Health and Family Services cited Chautauqua Health and Rehabilitation for five instances of “freedom of abuse, neglect, and exploitation deficiencies,” seven “quality of life and care deficiencies” and two resident rights deficiencies. The inspectors noted that the facility rated a “5” on a 1-5 harm scale, noting that Chautauqua Health and Rehabilitation failed to “timely report suspected abuse, neglect, or theft and report the results to the proper authorities” and failed “to protect each resident from all types of abuse, such as physical, mental, sexual abuse, physical punishment and neglect by anybody” and failed to “respond appropriately to all alleged violations.”

The Cabinet report shows that violations were corrected by November through staff training.
